Kerosene is the UK’s most widely used domestic heating fuel. It burns cleanly and efficiently, performs reliably through cold winters, and is typically more affordable than alternative liquid fuels. You may also see it referred to as home heating oil, domestic heating oil, or ‘28-second’ oil.

Unlike heavier oils such as diesel, kerosene has a low sulphur content, which means less residue in your boiler or cooker, lower maintenance requirements, and a cleaner burn overall. Its price moves in line with crude oil, so costs can fluctuate – but buying in bulk helps manage this.
